While ARC Raiders continues to climb the charts and break player records, Eurogamer has unexpectedly given the game a 2 out of 5, citing the use of AI-generated voice acting instead of human actors as the main reason.

Reviewer Rick Lane (Rick Lane) criticized Embark Studios for “making a game about a world where humans are replaced by machines — and then replacing humans with machines in production.” According to him, the AI-generated voices sound “flat and lifeless,” stripping the characters of any emotional nuance.

However, the audience didn’t share that opinion. Heated debates erupted on Reddit: some users agreed that AI voice acting is a step backward for the industry, while others accused the outlet of bias and clickbaiting. Many pointed out that ARC Raiders is widely praised for its lively atmosphere and unusually positive player community.

Given the game’s success, Eurogamer’s harsh score struck fans as particularly strange. Some even recalled the site’s previous controversial reviews — such as 4/5 for Baldur's Gate 3 and a perfect score for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which the reviewer recently had to defend.

Following the review’s publication, the game’s Metacritic average dropped noticeably — from 89 to 84. On Steam, however, the shooter still holds around 90% positive reviews. Its peak player count has surpassed 460,000, and analysts estimate total sales have already exceeded 2.5 million copies.

Ironically, human interaction is one of the core pillars of ARC Raiders. And while some continue debating the ethics of AI, others are too busy shouting the familiar in-game phrase: “Don’t shoot!”
