Earlier this month, media outlets reported that American actor John Lithgow would play the new Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series. This information has now been officially confirmed.

The actor stated that he will indeed take on this role in the upcoming series.

Well, it came as a total surprise to me. I just got the phone call up at the Sundance Film Festival for yet another film, and it was not an easy decision because it's going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I'm afraid. But I'm very excited. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter. That's why it's been such a hard decision. I'll be about 87 years old at the wrap party (the actor is currently 79), but I've said yes.
— John Lithgow

John Lithgow is known for many films and series. In 2010, he won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his role as a serial killer in the fourth season of Dexter.

No other actors have been officially confirmed for roles in the series yet. Rumor has it that British actor Paapa Essiedu may play Severus Snape. Some insiders also claim that Cillian Murphy might be involved in the project, potentially taking on the role of Voldemort or Professor Quirrell.

The premiere of the Harry Potter series is set for late 2026 or early 2027. Seven seasons are planned.
