Tenchu Z — Home of Goda, home to the Azuma ninja clan in the service of Lord Godda, is on the brink of war with the neighboring country of Ogawara. As a new recruit to the Azuma ninja clan, the protagonist is sent to kill those helping the Ogawara country, including army generals and spies who have infiltrated the Godda House, as well as recover stolen items and rescue prisoners. In between foiling the plans of Ogawara's country, the protagonist is also given missions in which he eliminates evil people such as cruel monks and greedy merchants. There is no connection between the plot of Tenchu Z and the previous games, and there are no returning characters, with the exception of Rikimaru and Lord Goda.
