Sonic 3 and Knuckles — following the West Side Island incident, Dr. Robotnik's Death Egg falls from orbit and collides with the Floating Island along the way, pushing the island into the ocean and causing a giant tsunami. Fortunately, the island is not sinking into the sea; instead, he remains slightly above the sea as if nothing had happened. Having survived the accident, Robotnik knows that the Chaos Emeralds are located somewhere on the Floating Island. He also discovers the energy of a giant Chaos Emerald on the island, which he can use to relaunch the Death Egg. With this new plan in mind, the Doctor begins to build a base on the Floating Island, capturing local animals to turn them into Badniks.
