Apple's iOS 27 iPhone Handoff Will Let Two iPhones Share One Number

Apple first mentioned iPhone Handoff at WWDC 2026, and the iOS 27 feature is now taking shape as a way to keep one phone number active on two iPhones. According to the current details, setup will live in the Cellular section of iPhone settings. On first launch, the system will ask the user to choose a primary iPhone and an additional iPhone, while the main eSIM stays on the primary device.

The second iPhone will need a carrier-issued companion eSIM. In practice, that means mobile network settings will be managed from the primary iPhone, while location detection will be tied to the device where the number is active at that moment.

Apple says the feature will not be universal on day one. Along with two iPhones running iOS 27, it will also require carrier support, which is the main catch for anyone hoping to use it immediately.

For now, Apple has not named every supported market, but T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom are expected to be among the first carriers to offer compatibility with iPhone Handoff. That makes the rollout sound promising, but still uneven at launch.
