Back in August, the developers of Battlefield 6 promised there would be no garish skins or operators that clash with the game’s grounded aesthetic. Turns out, that might not be entirely true. Dataminers recently dug into the files and discovered a new outfit with bright green accents.

Many Reddit users criticized the skin, saying it fails its primary purpose by making soldiers more visible. The original poster urged players to push back against such cosmetics, warning that otherwise the devs might one day add Santa Claus.

The possibility of more flamboyant skins isn’t far-fetched. After all, Call of Duty — Battlefield’s main rival — is infamous for controversial collaborations. That franchise already features Nicki Minaj, Beavis and Butt-Head, Jay and Silent Bob, and other characters with little to do with a military setting.

Here’s what other Redditors had to say:

I just don’t understand the thought process of these designers when they create shit like this. I just don’t get it. Just give us authentic military skins and everybody is happy.

Aren't authentic military skins intended to NOT draw attention? The complete opposite of why people buy skins?
— PunAboutBeingTrans
To all the defenders talking about how this is alright and nothing major, just give it a couple months after launch when you start seeing the really stupid shit. Then you’ll be back here complaining about those skins and wondering why they’re doing it. It’s fucking clockwork.
— SnappyFrog
I saw this skin and immediately got sad. This needs to go.

Way too much for me. It looks like fucking airsoft.

The developers have yet to comment on the controversy. Recently, the studio shared the first details of the upcoming battle royale mode.

Battlefield 6 launches October 10 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. For the first time in years, the game will feature a single-player campaign, set to be showcased at Tokyo Game Show in September.
